Cast your cares on Him

Picture
Background Photo: Chelsey Bishoff and Rice Love Bags

Happy Sabbath, friends! If this is you...if you are tired, weary, stressed, anxious, I’m praying you can hand things over to God. At least for today...baby steps.

Rest in Him.

Soak in His love and grace and peace and provision.

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:14

Rest vs. the Chase

Picture
Background Photo: Land of a Thousand Hills

In life we are told nothing is free. Nothing comes easy. So we learn to work and strive and fight for everything...attention, love, accomplishment, success, purpose, friendships, value.

But God gives freely. He is always there. He doesn’t make us work for His love. He doesn’t make us search and chase for Him. He doesn’t wait for us to be perfect or even good. He is there patiently waiting for us to just be with Him....just as we are.

And I think this is why God is often left behind in our lives. Either we can’t fathom His extravagant grace, or we know He will always be there so we spend all our time on things that require the chase. We say we will get to Him, but the chase takes all our time and energy.

And the crazy thing is, instead of exerting more time and energy in choosing God, we find peace, freedom, and rest. It recharges us instead of depleting us.

Have you ever been there? In one of those moments when you feel so close to God? In worship, or quiet time, or praise. But then it’s over and “life” takes over and you think, “well here we are back to reality” Back to the chase.

But have you ever stopped to think that true reality was that closeness to God. That tiny sliver of your day or week or year or even life...THAT is reality. That is what we were created for.

And that is what God desires...for more of our day to be in that reality; that nearness to Him. So much so that when we go about our “life” we are still with Him in that closeness. Then His desires are ours. His thoughts are ours. His will is ours. That is reality.

Praying for sabbath rest today to drop the chase and just spend time with God. 🧡

Be kind

Picture
Background Photo: Fair + Simple

Whether it is depression, illness, disease, heartbreak, past hurts, current struggles, loss, loneliness, unmet expectations or all of the above, things are never as they seem. Be kind. Give grace. Love more readily. Withhold judgement. Smile. Offer to help. Listen.

Outside of the reality that we live in a world where sin has yet to be defeated, it is impossible to explain why so much pain and suffering lingers. This life is hard for sure. So hard. The suffering can be excruciating. It doesn’t seem fair or right in this life. But we do have hope and a redeeming Savior who will ultimately make all things right. I cling to this truth.

But for now, while we wait for the day of full restoration, I pray for healing and peace in the present that only God can provide...both supernaturally and through medication and gifted professionals and friends. EVERY good and perfect gift is from above.

Never be ashamed to reach out. The truth is, you are not alone. My DM is always open and willing to receive prayer requests. 🧡

Inspire Action

Picture
Background Photo: Aanya
I listened to the TED Radio Hour podcast "Inspire To Action" today on my walk (link here). One of the guests was Simon Sinek, who also hosted the third most watched TedTalk of all time (originally aired in 2010). I remember watching it several years ago and thinking about it for days after and recommending it to many friends. I get a little geeked out studying great leaders and great movements.

I so desire a huge revival and movement for Jesus! He is the ultimate leader of the ultimate movement. All others pale in comparison. And it is so fascinating to see those who study great leaders and movements, though secular, highlight many of the characteristics Jesus displayed.
