Hidden Idols

Picture
Background Photo: Katie McNaught for ROMA Boots

Posting this again because it has come up again in several conversations (okay...conversations with myself, but I often need a good talking to. And if you ask God to show you what you need to work on, He doesn’t disappoint).

“The level of your irritation often reveals the depth of your idolatry.”

Some people and things are legitimately offensive. No doubt! But more often my irritation is tied to a sin area and idol in my life.

Those things that are offending me and getting under my skin...I need to peel back the layers...sometimes several deep. The more irritated, the deeper it usually is. What is really being offended? My pride, my view of success, my self-righteousness, my sense of entitlement, my selfish ambitions?

God, thank you for not only revealing these things to me, but for also being the One to give all power to change them when I am unable to.
