Trading principles for anything is a recipe for disaster. In our head we know that to be true, but how often do we do it?
We easily overlook seemingly little things that may not line up with what we know to be right, trading principles for power...
It's just a little book. Just a little show. Just a little song. Just a little white lie. Just a little conversation. Just a little opportunity for me to bring attention to myself. Just a little picture. Just a little post. Just a little compromise...it's for a good cause, after all...the ends will justify the means.
The "just a little" can slowly grow until we are faced with just a lot. We aren't where we intended to be.
Indeed, the devil will always come back and offer variations of the same deal...the same invitation to just a little more.
God never changes. God's principles never change. God's love never changes.
Love does what is right. All the time. Always patient, always kind, never envious, never boastful, never proud, never dishonoring of others, never self-seeking or easily anger, never keeping record of wrongs, never delighting in evil, always rejoicing in truth, always protecting, always trusting, always hopeful, always persevering, never failing.
If we ever want to check our principles, we can check how we are doing against what love does. Any area we are falling short, we will find rooted in places where we have compromised principles for power in some way.
God, thank you that You never change. You are the same today as You were when You spoke the world into existence. Please help me to consistently seek You first; to keep my eyes focused up and on You, and not the places the devil is offering a new deal for the focus to be on me.
