Rest vs. the Chase

Picture
Background Photo: Land of a Thousand Hills

In life we are told nothing is free. Nothing comes easy. So we learn to work and strive and fight for everything...attention, love, accomplishment, success, purpose, friendships, value.

But God gives freely. He is always there. He doesn’t make us work for His love. He doesn’t make us search and chase for Him. He doesn’t wait for us to be perfect or even good. He is there patiently waiting for us to just be with Him....just as we are.

And I think this is why God is often left behind in our lives. Either we can’t fathom His extravagant grace, or we know He will always be there so we spend all our time on things that require the chase. We say we will get to Him, but the chase takes all our time and energy.

And the crazy thing is, instead of exerting more time and energy in choosing God, we find peace, freedom, and rest. It recharges us instead of depleting us.

Have you ever been there? In one of those moments when you feel so close to God? In worship, or quiet time, or praise. But then it’s over and “life” takes over and you think, “well here we are back to reality” Back to the chase.

But have you ever stopped to think that true reality was that closeness to God. That tiny sliver of your day or week or year or even life...THAT is reality. That is what we were created for.

And that is what God desires...for more of our day to be in that reality; that nearness to Him. So much so that when we go about our “life” we are still with Him in that closeness. Then His desires are ours. His thoughts are ours. His will is ours. That is reality.

Praying for sabbath rest today to drop the chase and just spend time with God. 🧡
