We are bombarded by messages. How do we hear and listen to the voice of the Good Shepherd over all the others? We NEED to hear the Shepherd’s voice. It is the only voice that leads to life.
My heart has been so burdened lately, particularly for kids growing up in this crazy social media world. The voices and messages are everywhere, and they are often louder than the Shepherd’s voice; they are laced with captivating hooks; they are disguised as intelligent voices and quick fixes; they sound smart and savvy and sexy. But they lead to utter destruction. Our kids are filled with anxiety that is not from God. They are seeking validation from every voice except the ONE that is light and life. They tag along at church on Sunday and even enjoy Bible study at times, but is often only momentary breaths of air while they remain drowning in the other voices.
I get how God says he is jealous for us. I feel that way for all of those who are buried under Satan’s voices blasting so loud they can’t hear the sweet sound of the Good Shepherd.
Satan’s voice is slowly killing us while we continue to play the game. We are deceived and we in turn deceive. It needs to stop. It is madness!
But God doesn’t compete. He is consistent, ever-present, and ever-wooing, but where Satan is forcefully, obnoxiously, and manipulatively pushing his way in, God is patiently waiting. Mother Teresa says, “We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence.”
One thing we can do immediately is to begin to recognize whose voice we are hearing and heeding. We can tell by the tone and the impact on us.
God’s voice stills, leads, restores, enlightens, encourages, comforts, uplifts, calms, and convicts.
Satan’s voice rushes, pushes, frightens, confuses, discourages, worries, compares, obsesses, and condemns. Who needs it!
God, I am pleading today for You to show me how to help those in my small sphere of influence to hear Your voice above all others. I am at a loss. The problem seems so big, yet I know nothing is too big for You. Here I am Lord, use me. Show me where I can help guide people to Your voice. Stir up a revival that makes ears and hearts so attuned the voice of the Shepherd that no voice of Satan can break through.
